HOW ELECTRIC FENCING WORKS
The energiser produces a high voltage, low current pulse, approximately once per second, through a special conductive fence line. This must be made of low resistance electro tape, poly wire or metal wire. The fence line must be totally insulated from the ground so that there is no leakage or current to the earth. Good quality insulators are extremely important as they enable the maximum voltage difference between the earth and the fence line to be achieved. When the animal touches the live fence line it will complete the electric circuit.

HOW SAFE IS ELECTRIC FENCING
Electric fencing is very safe for both animals and humans. It is important to erect a mains system correctly to ensure that the energiser is fitted in a dry location. Though the voltage is high (maximum 10,000 volts) the frequency and size of the pulse makes the product safe.
This will be great enough to give your animal a harmless electic shock, making it step away from the fence. Your horse will remember the shock and the electric fence then becomes a psychological barrier.

TIPS ON ELECTRIC FENCING
ALWAYS ensure that you use a good quality insulator - avoids current leakage.
ALWAYS have a minimum of joins. If a join is necessary in tape always use a proper joiner or twist the metal strands.
NEVER use a car battery for an Electric Fence Energiser. Only use a Leisure Battery.
ALWAYS use a rust free galvanised metal earth stake, copper earth stakes have insufficient earthling.
NEVER use baler twine as an insulator. In wet and damp conditions voltage leaking always occurs. This will seriously minimise the effectiveness of the installation.
